BEST TIME TO SNORKEL IN ARUBA: OUR CREW’S 30 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
“Written by a team with more than 30 years of experience introducing hundreds of thousands of guests to Aruba’s underwater world.”

When Is the Best Time to Snorkel in Aruba?
If you’re planning a snorkeling vacation in Aruba, you’ve probably asked yourself one question:
When is the best time to snorkel in Aruba?
It’s one of the questions we hear almost every day.
After more than 30 years of introducing guests to Aruba’s incredible underwater world, we can honestly say there isn’t a wrong answer. Both our Morning Snorkel Sail and Afternoon Snorkel Sail offer unforgettable experiences.
But if our own crew had to choose… We’d usually pick the morning. Here’s why.

Why We Love Morning Snorkeling
Morning conditions usually bring lighter winds, gentler currents, and exceptional visibility.
Looking down through Aruba’s crystal clear water and seeing the famous Antilla shipwreck appear beneath you is something you’ll never forget.
Morning is also one of your best opportunities to spot Aruba’s resident sea turtles. They’re wild animals, so sightings are never guaranteed, but we’re fortunate to see them regularly. I often joke that our crew is on a first name basis with the turtles because we’re in the water with our guests every single day.
Morning cruises also include three snorkel stops, giving guests more time to experience Aruba’s underwater world.
For underwater photography, mornings are spectacular. The sunlight reaches deep into the water, making tropical fish, coral formations and the Antilla even more impressive.
If you’re snorkeling for the very first time, calmer morning conditions often help you relax, build confidence and enjoy every minute in the water.
Aruba’s Famous Trade Winds
One of the first things visitors notice about Aruba is the wind. And honestly… We love it.
The trade winds are one of the reasons Aruba is so comfortable year-round. They keep us cool, fill our sails and turn even the warmest tropical day into perfect weather for being out on the water. Those steady breezes are part of everyday life here.
Which is exactly why anyone involved in watersports notices when they suddenly ease. It doesn’t happen very often. Usually during late summer or early fall, tropical weather systems elsewhere in the Caribbean can temporarily weaken Aruba’s normally reliable trade winds. Even though Aruba sits safely outside the hurricane belt, we occasionally enjoy these unusually calm mornings.
When that happens, the sea becomes beautifully smooth and visibility around the Antilla can be breathtaking. Those are the mornings experienced snorkelers dream about.
Jolly Pirates Afternoon Cruise
Not everyone wants to wake up early on vacation.
Many guests enjoy another cup of coffee, another swim at the beach or simply sleeping in before joining us.
The Afternoon Snorkel Sail still includes snorkeling at the famous Antilla shipwreck, a beautiful shallow reef, sailing aboard our authentic pirate schooner and, of course, our legendary rope swing.
The atmosphere is fun, relaxed and full of Caribbean energy.

The Rope Swing Everyone Talks About
Ask past guests what they remember most about Jolly Pirates and you’ll usually hear two answers.
The snorkeling. And the rope swing.
For many families, couples and groups of friends, the rope swing becomes the highlight of the day. Funny enough, many guests board the boat convinced the snorkeling will be their favorite memory.
By the end of the cruise, half of them are talking about the rope swing instead. Don’t be surprised if “just one jump” turns into four or five.
Perfect for First-Time Snorkelers

Many of our guests have never snorkeled before. That’s one of our favorite parts of the job. Our crew doesn’t simply hand you equipment. We’re in the water with you. We help fit your mask. We explain how to breathe. We help you feel comfortable. We point out tropical fish and sea turtles. We always say:
“A relaxed snorkeler is the best snorkeler.”
By the end of the trip, many guests are already planning their next snorkeling adventure.
So… What’s the Best Time to Snorkel in Aruba?
If your priority is calm water, outstanding visibility, and the fullest snorkeling experience, we’d usually recommend the morning.
If you’d rather enjoy a slow vacation morning and still experience fantastic snorkeling, sailing, tropical scenery and our famous rope swing, the afternoon is an excellent choice.
The truth is… There isn’t a wrong answer. After more than 30 years, we’ve learned something important. Guests rarely remember the exact water temperature or how many fish they saw. They remember the feeling. The moment they spotted their first sea turtle. The first jump from the rope swing. The excitement of snorkeling for the very first time. The laughter on the sail home.
After more than 30 years on Aruba’s waters, we’ve learned that the best part of snorkeling isn’t the shipwreck, the sea turtles or even the famous rope swing. It’s watching someone climb back aboard after their very first snorkel with a smile that says, “I can’t believe I almost didn’t do that.”
That’s what we’ve been sharing with guests for more than three decades, and we still feel incredibly lucky to call these waters home.
